Our Referral Services

Our referral services Questions and answers

Q: Will insurance pay for personal home care services?

A: While your regular health plan insurance such as Medicare, HMO, or supplement does not
provide coverage for non-medically necessary home care, there are many other options to help
cover the costs. Those options include long-term care insurance, Veterans (VA) benefits (not
only for the veteran, but also for the spouse or surviving spouse), and Medicaid long-term care.
Care Plus accepts all long-term care policies and we are able to assist with obtaining Veterans
and/or Medicaid benefits.

Q: What if the caregiver provided is not compatible with me or my loved one?

A: We strive to match the most appropriate caregiver(s) for every home care client on Day 1 of
services. We do this through an extensive consultation with you, your loved one, and one of our
Senior Care Specialists to fully understand the care needs and expectations. The details of that
meeting will then be used by the Care Plus care advisor dedicated to working with you and your
loved one to schedule in-person caregiver interviews with you so the most compatible individual
begins providing the care. We fully understand that there still may be a time when you need
another match. If that occurs, you always have the right at any time to terminate the care
provider referred to you, and to request another referral at no cost. Remember, you are the
Boss!

Q: Do you require background checks for the caregivers you refer?

A: Absolutely. As a licensed Nurse Registry we strictly follow the requirements set forth by the
Florida Agency for Health Care Administration to ensure that the caregivers we refer do not
have a criminal record. We obtain Level 2 background results prior to referring any caregiver
into a client’s home. In addition to the collection of background results, we also assure that each caregiver is qualified to provide home care by verifying state certified nursing assistant (CNA) licensure, home health aide (HHA) training completion, RN, LPN, CPR training, and other
continuing education training. Our recruiting team also receives both professional and personal
references for each caregiver.

Q: During what hours am I able to reach a caregiver coordinator?

A: Care Plus Care Coordination is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week by clicking here.
Our official office hours are 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday, but after hours and on
weekends and holidays there is always a caregiver coordinator who is on call to assist.

Q: What is a home caregiver/private duty aide expected to do for me or my loved one?

A: Every home care client’s needs are different. Therefore, an individual care plan is needed.
The caregiver is expected to follow our clients’ care needs, such as activities of daily living.
These may include, but are not limited to, bathing, dressing, transferring and mobility, using the
bathroom, preparing meals, light housekeeping, laundry, linen changes, transportation,
shopping, and companionship. It should be noted that no Care Plan is set in stone. Your
participation with the caregiver is key to managing your care. You are the boss!

Q: Do I have to sign a contract?

A: We do have a service agreement but no contract. There is no minimum term when using
Care Plus

Q: How much will I pay for care?

A: The cost of care is determined by multiple factors including level of care, location of service,
number of hours requested, and type of care professional being sent. You and your care
provide

Q: During what hours am I able to reach a caregiver coordinator?

A: A live Care Plus staff member can help you with service 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Q: How do I choose a caregiver?

A: Care Plus sets up interviews with prescreened candidates matched through our thorough and extremely effective 5-Star Match process so you can meet with the caregivers ahead of time and choose which one you would like to have in your home.

Q: Will Care Plus accept my long-term care (LTC) insurance?

A: Yes, we accept all major long-term care insurance plans, and we can assist you in
understanding your benefits under the plan.

Q: What levels of caregivers do you refer?

A: We can refer home health aides (HHAs), certified nurse assistants (CNAs), licensed practical
nurses (LPNs), and registered nurses (RNs).

Q: What is the difference between an HHA and a CNA?

A: A home health aide (HHA) is a trained professional who provides non-medical home care services. HHAs’ primary activities include assistance with personal care—basic activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, dressing and mobility—and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) such as home maintenance, meal preparation, shopping and transportation.
A Certified nursing assistant (CNA) assists with health care needs and cares for a patient who is ill or recovering from a surgery or disease. CNAs duties are assigned by a registered
professional nurse. Sometimes they provide service on activities of daily living, bedside care,
including basic nursing procedures under the supervision of a registered nurse. A CNA is a
person who has successfully completed a training program or course with a curriculum
prescribed by the state in which s/he resides. Classes for CNA are conducted by a nurse or
certified instructor in a community college or nursing home. Upon completion of classes, a
certificate will be awarded. Later, upon qualifying the state certification exam, they become a
CNA.

Assisted living center or a nursing home? Care Plus Professionals Inc. home care might be the better choice.
Home Care vs Residential Care: Assisted Living, Nursing Home, Skilled Nursing Facilities

In-home care enables adults to retain their independence, the comfort of familiar surroundings,
and their dignity and privacy as they age. Physically, in-home care can help seniors to remain
active longer and maintain a level of mobility that’s not always possible in an assisted living
facility, nursing home, or skilled nursing facility. Emotionally, at-home care helps prevent
depression and its negative impact on health and quality of life—a risk for many seniors in
nursing homes.

As you evaluate home care options in Florida, it’s also important to understand the different
in-home care arrangements—home health agencies, nurse registries, and
homemaker/companion organizations versus independent caregivers.

Home Care vs Assisted Living Facility

Assisted living is a housing option for seniors who need help with some activities of daily living,
including minor help with medications—i.e., non-medical personal (or custodial) care. Higher
levels of medical care support typically are not provided by an assisted living center. It’s
important to confirm what’s included in any assisted living facilities you may be considering. In
assisted living, there is less privacy and independence than in a senior’s own home. Some
seniors find it difficult adjusting to the assisted living environment. Click here for assistance with Assisted Living.

Home Care vs Nursing Home/Skilled Nursing Facility

Nursing homes and skilled nursing facilities are for any adult (not just the elderly) needing
24-hour medical care and supervision—and often nursing home cares private pay rates are over
$15,000 per month, due to chronic illness, surgery, or an accident or injury. For financial
reasons, some nursing homes are moving away from providing long-term care so it can be
harder to arrange a permanent nursing home placement. Even more than is the case with
assisted living, there is less privacy and independence in a nursing home or skilled nursing
facility than in a senior’s own home.

Home Care Providers

Pasco and Pinellas Personal Home Care Providers Referred By Care Plus Professionals Inc. In-home care services in South Florida We take Personal Care very personally

Personal care services administered by a trusted home health aide

CNAs and HHAs Provide Personal Care Services The Help Needed to Remain Independent

Personal care services can help your parent, spouse or other senior  loved one continue to live
independently at home as he or she ages, something that can be complicated by illness,
accidents, and the effects of growing older itself on physical and mental capabilities. After a life
of independence and self-sufficiency, it may be hard to accept the need for aid with personal
care. Personal caregivers referred by Care Plus respect the importance of preserving your loved
one’s privacy and dignity while assisting with activities that once could be done unaided.

Addressing Non-Medical Personal Care Needs
In-home personal care may also be referred to as “non-medical home care,” “custodial care,”
“companion care,” or “private duty home care.”

Skilled Nursing Care in South Florida
Personal caregivers:
• Assist with basic functional activities of daily living (ADLs) that involve personal care for and
movement of the
body, such as bathing/showering, dressing, toileting, walking, and eating
• Aid with instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs)—tasks that help maintain a household
and an independent
lifestyle, such as cooking, light housekeeping, laundry, driving/transportation, and shopping
• Offer companionship and encouragement and other “intangibles” that can offset the loneliness,
depression or frustration that aging individuals sometimes experience
Personal caregivers are not medically trained, however. They are not qualified to provide skilled
nursing care such as injections, wound/surgical dressing changes, or pain management. For
example, a personal caregiver can provide medication reminders, but only a skilled nurse can
manage which medications your loved one is taking (referred to as medication reconciliation).

In situations where in-home skilled nursing care is required, there is often a need for supportive
personal care, too. However, it is common for personal care services to be needed in the home
even when skilled nursing care is not.

Care Plus can also refer providers of skilled nursing home care.
We refer experienced licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and registered nurses (RNs) who are
qualified to provide medically necessary home care. For more information on in-home health
care, visit the skilled nurses section of this website.

Compassionate CNAs and HHAs Providing Sensitive, Respectful Personal Home Care Services

“My family is so pleased with Care Plus’
services, we wanted to write and
tell you about it. We can’t thank you
enough for being there during this time of
need, your outstanding service and the
genuine concern from both our Care Plus
and her aide.”

If you request non medical personal care at home, Care Plus can refer carefully screened CNAs
(certified nurse assistants) and HHAs (home health aides) with demonstrated reliability and a
passion for what they do. The most compatible personal care match for your loved one is further ensured through interviews with prescreened personal caregiver candidates.

We verify training and work history and personal background, then narrow the field by
presenting 2 or 3 compatible personal caregiver candidates. The interviews give you and/or
your loved one the final choice of personal caregiver on the basis of one-to-one compatibility.
Beyond training, skills and experience, we understand the importance of personal
compatibility when choosing an HHA or CNA.

Referrals of HHAs and CNAs who can provide nonmedical personal care
